For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
(1 Corinthians 11:6-7)

Christ is giving us a command here: a woman should cover her head when praying or prophesying; a man is forbidden to.

Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
(1 Corinthians 11:4)

Since the head of man is Christ, I dishonor Jesus if I pray with my head covered. I never want to do that!

About 4 years ago, Spirit told me he wanted me to wear long skirts or dresses "and something on your head." Following his directions, I went through my closets and donated all of my slacks to a Christian woman who works in the jails. The girls really needed clothes.

I had so much fun with the hats I purchased in second hand stores, lots of colors, designs and I loved my new look. I also noticed that people showed me a great deal of respect and courtesy when I dressed as YHVH instructed me. I like it like that.

The reason that the priests had to wear the covering was because Christ had not been sacrificed yet....the priests were directly under God. The covering is submission to the order of God's creation....God first, then Christ, then man, then woman. Christ died and rose again, and is directly under God...so the headcovering for man is no longer needed. But a woman is still in submission to man, whether it is her husband, her Dad, or her boss, or any other man in the world. Man was created first, and woman was taken from man, and woman sinned first. She is still under the authority of man, so she still needs the covering.

It is a beautiful thing! I have been blessed so much through wearing one. Why do I think it is not a commandment? I have thought about this a lot because I have heard the question many times. I know from experience that wearing a head covering is not something to be taken lightly. It can be difficult sometimes. I look different and will always look different, but that is part of the reason I love it. I can only give you my opinion from my knowledge of the Scripture. Wearing a head covering is throughout Scripture, almost like it is taken for granted that it would be done by the daughters of Israel. They are worn, but never described. I think that YHVH is giving us the choice in modern times. We see it as an example from righteous women in the Scripture, but we are left to make the choice on our own. I believe that many women would resent a head covering if they were specifically instructed to wear it. I know that I would have if the Father had not worked on my heart and put the desire in me. It would have felt like bondage instead of freedom. Time and time again, I hear testimonies of women who have been moved my the Father to wear a head covering and they all say the same thing: It is such a personal and spiritual thing. If He is putting it in your heart, seek Him about it and take a step of faith. It is not a decision to be taken lightly. People will look at you differently. You will see yourself differently. For me, that's part of the reason YHVH has instructed me to wear it.

This is a good youtube video that I came across the other day. It includes all the relevant Scriptures about head coverings. The girl who put it together has other videos about head coverings. She is so sweet and contagious! And only 17. I love watching her videos when I feel down or alone in wearing my covering.

Thank you for this wonderful teaching! Covering has been on my heart lately and I'm just beginning to pray about it and study it out. My hesitation comes from the fact that it is not a mitzvah. Why do you think that is? Everything I've read so far seems like its such a beautiful thing.

Excellent study. I don't feel convicted myself, but I think we all (women) should pray for God's guidance in this matter. It sounds as though it does come as a personal conviction, and that should be followed. And that the Lord, not surprisingly, gives definite answers in reply to such questions.
